Clody's One Eye slated Sept. 14

Wednesday, August 28, 2013

The world's only one-eye golf tournament is set to return to return on Saturday, Sept. 14.

The 20th annual Clody's One Eye Golf Scramble is set for 11 a.m. at Old Hickory Golf Course.

The charitable tournament is again being promoted by Greencastle Elks Lodge 1077.

Sponsors are needed for this year's tournament as well as players. All donations are 100-percent tax deductible.

As in the past, all proceeds from the tournament benefit the Riley Children's Hospital ophthalmology department.

One big change this year will be two-person scramble teams instead of four. As always, the principal rule will be that all players are required to wear eye patches while hitting, thus making it a one-eyed golf tournament.

The unique tradition of one-eyed golf began when a group of friends of tournament founder Terry Clodfelter were teasing him about his golf game.

Clodfelter, who has sight in only one eye, challenged his friends to try playing with just one eye.

Later, the fun tradition became something more when proceeds began going to kids with sight problems of their own.

In two decades of the tournament, approximately $130,000 has been donated to Riley.

The Elks have taken over organizing the tournament in recent years, wanting to give Clodfelter a break and keep the tradition alive.

Registration begins at 10 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. start. Two-man teams may enter at a cost of $100 per team. Each player may also purchase one mulligan for $5 each.

Prizes will be award: $300 for first place; $200 for second place; $100 for third place.

A reception will follow the scramble at around 5 p.m. at the Greencastle Elks Lodge, 202 S. Indiana St.
