New county commissioner to be chosen Saturday

Tuesday, September 3, 2013

The District 2 Putnam County Commissioner seat vacated by the Aug. 14 passing of Nancy Fogle will be filled in a Saturday caucus.

The county Republican precinct committeemen will meet for the caucus at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 in the Commissioners Courtroom on the first floor of the Putnam County Courthouse.

Committeemen will convene for an 8:30 a.m. breakfast and precinct meeting at Jackson's Double Decker restaurant, followed by the caucus at the courthouse at 11 a.m.

All 31 Putnam County GOP precinct committeemen are eligible to vote in the caucus.

One vote per precinct will be counted, meaning that both committeemen and their vice-committeemen need not attend. However, if a committeeman is not available for Saturday's caucus, the vice-committeeman may fill the void.

The vacancy is in District 2 and therefore open to Republicans in Clinton, Madison, Greencastle and Marion townships. The deadline to register with county chairman Jerry Ensor as a candidate is 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4.

The caucus will be a closed meeting, but the results will be made public upon determination of a new commissioner.

The chosen representative will serve the remainder of Fogle's term, which expires Dec. 31, 2014.
