It was only through traveling and experiencing the many different cultures of Europe that DePauw University faculty pianist Wonmin Kim and violinist Wonji Kim of Salzburg, Austria, came to understand the influence of language on a composer's method of articulation, stress and phrasing.

The Kim sisters, natives of Seoul, South Korea, will be reunited for an evening of virtuoso works for violin and piano on the next Faculty Select Series concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 in the Green Center's Thompson Recital Hall.

Both widely traveled and accomplished artists, Wonji and Wonmin bring a fresh performance approach to masterpieces of the violin repertoire. In Thursday's recital, they will present music from four different cultural and linguistic backgrounds -- Germany, France, Norway and Hungary --including sonatas by Beethoven, Grieg and Ravel, along with Bela Bart--k's "First Rhapsody."

"We are indeed very happy about our musical reunion," Wonmin, a collaborative pianist on the faculty of the DePauw School of Music, said. "My sister and I are extremely excited to share with the audience the multitude of linguistic color through this program of beautiful violin and piano music."

Violinist Wonji Kim is currently visiting DePauw from the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, where she has been a full-time faculty member since 2003.

Wonmin Kim, previously staff pianist for the legendary Dorothy Delay studio at the Juilliard School of Music, began her professional career at age 12, performing Beethoven's Concerto No. 3 as soloist with the Seoul Symphony Orchestra.

Individual tickets for the Faculty Select Series are available for $5.

Tickets for all students, seniors over 65, and youth, 12 years and younger, are free thanks to season sponsors, Judson and Joyce Green.
