Saturday Zombie Apocalypse event to enliven GHA coffers
The Zombie Apocalypse Run is set for Saturday, Sept. 21 at 10 a.m., commencing at Greencastle's Robe-Ann Park.
Everyone is invited to attend the event and walk, trot, creep, shuffle or run. Costumes are encouraged for the zombie runners.
The route will begin at shelterhouse No. 1 and go west through the DePauw University campus and back over a three-mile course.
Medals will be presented to first-, second- and third-place runners and first- and second-place male and female runners. There will also be treats in the goody bags.
Deadline for registration was initially set for Sept. 13 but has been extend to Sept. 20. Registration is $25 for adults and $10 for youth age 12 and under.
All proceeds will go toward support for the Greencastle Housing Authority (GHA) and the Housing Assistance Payments, which means all proceeds will be used to house those in need in Putnam County.
GHA services help those whose income is below 50 percent of the median income of Putnam County, currently serving 131 families throughout the county.
The fundraiser is being held due to the effects of the federal sequestration. Funding for housing assistance payments has been cut drastically, reducing the GHA's ability to serve those most vulnerable within the community.
Registration forms are available at 309 E. Franklin St. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Additionally, Pizza King of Greencastle has agreed to partner with GHA for the fundraiser. On Tuesday, Sept. 17, Pizza King will donate 10 percent of its proceeds from the entire day to GHA.
