Eagles get dominant win at Eminence

Friday, September 20, 2013

MARTINSVILLE -- The South Putnam volleyball team picked up an impressive four-set win at Eminence on Thursday, beating the Eels 26-28, 25-16, 25-13, 25-14.

The tough squad battled back from one set down thanks in part to the serving of seniors Emily Clark and Katie McHugh.

Clark had 26 points and 15 aces, and McHugh had 16 points and seven aces. Clark and senior Kelly Hayden led the team in digs and seniors Aubrey Nichols and Carey Tanner led the Eagles in kills.

McHugh had 19 blocks and sophomore Katie Hewitt had 18 blocks.

South Putnam's reliance and ability to battle back from a set down is a positive sign for the squad that has struggled so far this season.

The Eagles return to action Wednesday at West Central Conference opponent Monrovia at 7:30 p.m.
