South Putnam

On Friday evening, county rival football teams will work together to collect coats, hats, mittens and gloves as a kickoff to the 14th annual Coats for Kids campaign.

Teams will set aside their rivalries as North Putnam travels to Greencastle and Cloverdale visits South Putnam.

The schools will work together to see who can collect the most coats prior to and before the end of the football game. Even though the teams, fans and community will be looking for a school victory on the field, off the field the teams are uniting as one in an effort to provide coats for so many of Putnam County's children.

Greencastle

"What a perfect opportunity to promote teamwork through community involvement," Coats for Kids coordinator Linda Merkel said. "The goal is to collects as many coats, hats, mittens and gloves as possible while embracing the competition between the teams."

The winning teams will receive a trophy and a place on the annual "Hall of Fame" plaque. Cloverdale and South Putnam were the winners for the first two years, but Greencastle and North Putnam have moved to the winning spot the last two years.

Elementary schools also take part in their own competition that will begin soon.

Cloverdale

Coats for Kids signature boxes will be located at the following businesses beginning today: Ivy Tech Community College, Area 30 Career Center, Walmart Supercenter, Walmart Distribution Center, Teachers Credit Union, Kroger, Greencastle City Hall, PC Hospital, PC Library, IAC and Chiyoda.
