Sandra Lynne Mason Hand

Sandra Lynne Mason Hand, 73, formerly of Greencastle, passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013.

Sandra was born Aug. 10, 1940 in Putnam County, near Roachdale, to parents Helen (McMurtrey) and Curtis Mason.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John and George Mason, and her sisters, Joyce Williams and Rebecca Schlosser.

Sandra is survived by her husband, Jimmy Hand; a brother, Ralph Mason; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Sandra was active in politics and a devout Republican.

She appreciated those who have fought for our safety and freedoms. She was especially grateful to her husband Jimmy, recipient of a Purple Heart for injuries suffered in Korea, her brother John who was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge, her brother Ralph who served in Korea and to her great-nephew Jeff McFarland who continues to serve.

Sandra had most recently been a homemaker but had spent her early adult years providing administrative support in the public and private sectors.

Her greatest wish was that those of us who survive use our God-given gifts to create a better world.

In lieu of flowers Sandra had requested that any donation you wish to make be made to the Humane Society of your choice.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at Blakesburg Cemetery in Fincastle.

A dinner will follow with location and details to be announced at the service.
