Joseph Wendell Elrod

Joseph Wendell Elrod was born on Nov. 26, 1923, in Putnam County, Indi., near Coatesville.

He passed from our world on Aug. 20, 2013, at the age of 91.

He was a graduate of Amo High School and Purdue University, where he became an electrical engineer.

Following college, he served two years in the United States Navy during World War II.

Joe worked for Penn Power Co. before coming to Mansfield, Ohio, in 1957. He then was employed at the Ohio Brass Co. After 30 years of service with Ohio Brass, he retired in 1987.

He was a member of S.C.O.R.E., a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and a 50-year mason.

Joe enjoyed working in his workshop and in his yard. He was an avid reader and loved to travel.

In his earlier days, Joe served on the board of the Mansfield Playhouse and also enjoyed golfing.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell B. and Ruth Bourne Elrod, and also by his only sibling, his brother, Dr. James Elrod of Greencastle.

Joe will be returned to rest with his family in the Stilesville Cemetery near Greencastle.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at Stilesville Cemetery.

Services will be handled by Bousley-Hays Funeral Home, Coatesville.
