IHSAA sectional volleyball

Greencastle won the County Tournament and finished second in the West Central Conference, but those accomplishments didn't afford any scheduling favors for the volleyball postseason.

In a blind draw by the Indiana High School Athletic Association, the Tiger Cubs (15-10, 4-1 WCC) were assigned to begin with a rematch against the Edgewood Mustangs.

That match, hosted at Edgewood High School, will be on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m.

The rest of the county schools, all in Class 2A, will play in the Cloverdale Sectional.

The host Clovers (12-12) begin on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. with a match against Covenant Christian.

North Putnam and South Putnam both start the postseason on Thursday, Oct. 24.

The Cougars kick the tournament off against Monrovia at 6 p.m.

The Eagles' game against Speedway follows.

Greencastle played a home game against Edgewood (16-4) earlier this season, losing badly against the much-taller Mustangs in three sets 25-12, 25-20, 25-7.

Cloverdale and Covenant Christian (13-14) have not played this season, but the Warriors and Clovers have several common opponents.

Of note, Covenant Christian beat North Putnam and South Putnam earlier this season but lost to Greencastle in a tournament on Saturday.

North Putnam beat Monrovia in three sets during a match earlier this month.

South Putnam (6-14) appears to have the most difficult matchup. The Sparkplugs (28-2) have the top record in the state among class 2A teams.
