At 7:59 p.m., Elizabeth Sage, 24, Greencastle, was northbound on Manhattan Road, nearing County Road 300 West in a 2004 Honda Civic.

Sage told Deputy Kyle Gibbons she checked her phone and when she looked up, a vehicle was stopped in front of her, waiting to turn lest onto 300 West.

In an attempt to avoid the stopped vehicle, Sage swerved into the southbound land, trying to turn onto the other road.

This action took her into the path of a southbound 2004 Pontiac Sunfire, the car on which the stopped vehicle was waiting.

The driver of the Pontiac, Brittany N. Nees, 23, Poland, could not avoid the collision, and the front end of her car impacted the right rear of Sage's car.

Both drivers refused medical attention. Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

Sage was issued citations for operating without financial responsibility and failure to yield to oncoming traffic.
