Saturday, October 19, 2013

Senior Education Ministries Inc. has scheduled Dine with a Doc on the fourth Monday of every month from 10 a.m.-noon at Ivy Tech Community College.

Dine with a Doc is a free program that welcomes the local senior public to hear the doctor of the month present an educational topic with lunch.

The program on Monday, Oct. 28 will feature Dr. Debra K. Litzelman, M.A., M.D., and Wilma Griffin, M.S.

Litzelman is the health care provider educator for the Improving Palliative Care (PC) Interventions project funded by the Walther Foundation. Besides her clinical work, she is currently associate dean for research in medical education at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM).

Litzelman has an extensive background in medical education, including developing, implementing and assessing courses, team-based models of care, communication skills programs, and organizational change initiatives to foster relationship-centered work environments.

Griffin is the palliative care community education coordinator for the Palliative Care Education Project funded by the Walther Foundation.

She brings a diverse background in education to the team, having worked in public school systems, the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) and in the corporate sector.

Griffin has also worked as a consultant to companies who were planning to lay off or terminate employees. In that capacity, she analyzed the needs of employees, designed curriculum and presented workshops to assist these adult learners to re-enter the job market at an especially vulnerable time in their lives.

Together, the PC Education Team is bringing their experience and expertise to the education of practicing physicians and their care teams, spiritual and other community leaders, and the local community members whom these professionals serve.

A question-and-answer period will follow their presentations.

Brunch will be complimentary and provided courtesy of Putnam County Hospital. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 1-877-223-6109.

For more information, persons may call Senior Education Ministries Inc. at 812-230-7772 or email loriaplin@gmail.com.
