Greencastle Youth Football fundraiser Wednesday night

Monday, October 21, 2013

The Greencastle Youth Football (GYF) program is raising funds to purchase 60 youth football helmets.

The new helmets will replace aging equipment, as GYF strives to provide the safest protection possible for all players.

The Greencastle Youth Football program supported 107 youth players, in kindergarten through sixth grade during the 2013 season. The league loans shoulder pads, pants with pads, and helmets to each player for use during the season.

While some other leagues have gone to a "bring-your-own-equipment" model, or an equipment rental program, GYF strives to continue providing the equipment, keeping the entry cost low for the sport.

Each of the 60 helmets will cost $140 to replace. Greencastle Youth Football plans to hold several fundraisers to cover the purchase cost.

On Wednesday, Oct. 23 Buffalo Wild Wings will support Greencastle Youth Football by donating a portion of all purchases (excluding alcoholic beverages) to GYF from 6-9 p.m. Both carryout and dine-in purchases apply.

Also during the Buffalo Wild Wings event, GYF will sell used helmets for souvenir use, and a variety of other Greencastle football items, with all proceeds benefiting the helmet campaign.

Anyone who is unable to attend the GYF fundraiser at Buffalo Wild Wings, but would like to contribute to the purchase of helmets, direct donations are accepted and appreciated. Checks may be made payable to Greencastle Youth Football and directed to GYF at P.O. Box 434, Greencastle, IN.
