Area 30 scholarship golf scramble a great success

Wednesday, October 23, 2013
The Area 30 Career Center recently held its first golf scramble at the Windy Hill Country Club. Winning first place at the event was a team made up of (from left) Darrel Thomas, Brad Johnson, Ken Eitel and Bill Merkel.

A little foul weather didn't dampen the results of Area 30 Career Center's first golf scramble that was recently held at the Windy Hill Country Club in Greencastle.

With 17 four-person teams and 26 sponsors, the scholarship fund was boosted by approximately $3,000. All of the proceeds will be awarded to Area 30 graduates in May.

Last year, Area 30 awarded nearly $13,000 in scholarships to 24 students with each scholarship averaging more than $500.

Even though golfers left the course wetter than when they arrived, a great time was had by all.

The team of Ken Eitel, Bill Merkel, Darrel Thomas and Brad Johnson took first place and the South Putnam High School team of Keith Puckett, Troy Burgess, Matt Griswold and Kevin Metz placed a close second.

The event would not have been so successful if it wasn't for the donations of dollars and prizes from our community and college partners.

A special thanks to the following sponsors:

A. A. Huber and Son, Bittles and Hurt/ Hopkins Rector Funeral Home, Dixie Chopper, Elkins Construction, Farm Credit Mid America, First National Bank, Ivy Tech, , Lincoln Tech, Lora and Bob Busch, Mohr Chiropractic, Monical's Pizza, NAPA, North Salem State Bank, Ohio Technical College, Pizza Den, Putnam Plastics, Rubber Seal, S and B Auto Brokers, Steve's Welding, Stones Auto Body, Taylor Made Awards, Teachers Credit Union, University of Northwest Ohio, Vincennes University and York, Chevrolet and Buick GMC.

Rob Worman, Area 30 auto collision instructor, donated his family's time and profits from Dawg House Dogs food cart.

The first-place winners also generously donated their cash prize back to the Area 30 Scholarship fund.
