Wilma Sutherlin Hadley

Wilma Sutherlin Hadley, 96, died on Wednesday Nov. 6, 2013 at 11:46 p.m.

She was born in Putnam County to Oliver and Cordia Sanders Sutherlin on Oct. 11, 1917.

She graduated from Roachdale High School in 1935 and Central Normal College in 1939 and began her long teaching career. She taught in Hamlet, Hillsboro, Richmond Township, New Market, Ladoga, Roachdale and South Putnam schools for a combined total of 40 years.

Wilma was a member of the Roachdale Social Club, Senior Citizens, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Retired Teachers Association of Montgomery County.

Wilma was a longtime member of the Democratic Party and a precinct committeewoman also.

She was also a supporter of the Putnam County Foundation where she supported the creation of the Wilma and Forrest Hadley Scholarship to a Putnam County student studying in education and mathematics.

In 1975 she married Forrest Hadley, a farmer from Hendricks County, and he preceded her in death in 1986.

Wilma is survived by numerous friends, a first cousin, Joanne Holzmer of Hobart, many other cousins and her husband's daughter, Jane Hadley Collom.

Funeral services will be conducted at Roachdale Cemetery at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. Rev. Alan Small will officiate.

Visitation will be at Servies and Morgan Funeral Home, 102 E. Washington St., Roachdale, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Wilma and Forrest Hadley Scholarship Fund at the Putnam County Foundation, 2 S. Jackson St., Greencastle, IN 46135.

Family and friends are invited to the home of Joseph and Susan Crosby immediately following the service for refreshments.
