Chess, genealogy special events on PCPL schedule

Friday, November 8, 2013

The Putnam County Public Library will offer a one-night course titled "Chess by James" from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13.

Attendees may learn the basics of chess and more advanced players can come, play and hone their skills. Chess instructor James Champion is employed at PCPL as a substitute reference librarian.

The public is invited to come and learn chess from a champion. Paper boards and pieces will be provided, or feel free to bring your own.

In another upcoming program on Thursday, Nov. 14 from 2-3:30 p.m., Tony Barger from PCPL's local history and genealogy department, will lead an informative session on "Preserving Family Treasures."

The genealogy program is a Boomers and Beyond event. All those age 50 plus are welcome to attend.

Barger will discuss how to preserve cherished photos and mementoes. Attendees are encouraged to bring articles that they would like to preserve. Light refreshments will be served.

Both programs are free and open to the public.
