City Police

The report of a gun being reckless displayed led to the recovery of another stolen weapon and the arrest of a 25-year-old Putnam County man, Greencastle City Police reported.

Dwayne Arthur Doolin Jr., Reelsville, was arrested at 12:52 a.m. Tuesday at 1218 Castlebury Drive, police said. He was booked into the Putnam County Jail on a charge of receiving stolen property.

The incident began when Officer Kyle Lee was summoned to the apartment complex on the city's East Side after a complaint of a suspect waving a gun around in the parking lot.

When the investigation sent police to the apartment Doolin was in, Officer Lee recognized a sword in Doolin's possession that had been part of a burglary report he had taken recently.

-- As a result of an incident reported at 12:10 a.m. Saturday, Andre Garcia, 20, Chicago, will be summoned into court on a charge of illegal consumption of alcohol after a traffic stop near Pizza Hut on Indianapolis Road.

Under PBT (portable blood-alcohol testing), Garcia registered .062 percent, police said.

Officer Matt Huffman wrote Garcia a warning ticket for disregarding an automatic signal at Indianapolis Road and Percy Julian Drive, which prompted the original stop.

Two recent traffic accidents were investigated by city officers.

-- At 12:48 p.m. Monday, a three-vehicle mishap occurred at North Jackson and Jacob streets as Benjamin Koorsen, 33, Pendleton, was stopped northbound, waiting to turn left into the Putnam Inn parking lot. Stopped in traffic behind Koorsen's 2013 Ford Focus was a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser, driven by Valerie Garrison, 28, Cloverdale.

Also northbound was a 2007 GMC Sierra, driven by Derrik Patterson, 24, Greencastle, who told Capt. Mike Hanlon his attention was diverted while he opened a sandwich wrapper, and he did not see the stopped traffic ahead of him.

Patterson's pickup struck the rear of the Garrison car, pushing it into the rear of the Koorsen car, police said. Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

Capt. Hanlon was assisted at the accident scene by Officers Ed Wilson and Darrel Bunten.

-- At 5:37 p.m. Saturday, a two-car accident was reported on Indianapolis Road at the stoplight entrance to the Kroger store.

Virginia Day, 78, Greencastle, was stopped at the light, waiting to pull out of the Kroger lot in a 2001 Ford Taurus, as Stephanie Williams, 34, Greencastle, was westbound on Indianapolis Road, driving a 2008 Pontiac G6 in the lane that merges onto Franklin Street.

The two drivers told conflicting stories about who had the green light as Williams entered the intersection and Day left the Kroger lot and their vehicles collided.

Officer Albert Epple estimated total damage at $5,000-$10,000.

Sheriff's Department

* At 4:32 p.m. Thursday, Bradley J. Lowe, 47, Terre Haute, was southbound on State Road 243, approaching a downhill slope in a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier.

Lowe told Deputy Josh Boller he looked up and struck a northbound 2002 Chevrolet Silverado.

Lowe could not advise whether or not he was left of center.

The driver of the truck, Jeffrey D. Perkins, 56, Greencastle, said Lowe was left of center when he hit the side of the pickup.

Marks at the scene also indicated the car was left of center.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 7:38 a.m. on Friday, Kristen L. Lane, 43, Batesville, was northbound on U.S. 231 just south of County Road 350 South in a 2008 Ford F350.
