CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale School Board continued to work on several projects this month, such as the drainage between the high school and football field as well as establishing wellness centers for its employees.

Project Manager Dan Sulkoske once again came before the board to discuss the next phase of repairs, drainage around the high school and the football field.

"We have about two and a half months of design work. We might do a little bit better than that or a little bit worse," Sulkoske explained.

As previously discussed, the project will include a detention basin and outlet structure as well as drainage channel improvements.

It is expected that the corporation will make a decision in regards to awarding bids in April, after an engineer finishes with the design work. According to Sulkoske, it is likely that this will be a two-month project.

Several board members expressed concern about how the project would affect spring sports. However, Sulkoske informed them that is a discussion that would be had at a later date.

"We could certainly go ahead and start in April," Sulkoske said. "We were able to re-route traffic for the HVAC project for a little bit. I don't know how much of an inconvenience that was for you. It is certainly possible to go ahead and start construction immediately, but we would have to take into consideration operations."

It is likely that the project would begin during the summer months to avoid any interruption during the school year.

The cost is estimated at nearly $174,000 with a contingency.

Superintendent Carrie Milner also gave the board a quick update on the Wellness Clinic, which will be available to employees from many of the area schools that are a part of Wabash Valley West Central Indiana School Health Trust.

The clinic will provide free services to those who have health insurance with the district that include testing and basic screenings as well as providing generic pharmacy prescriptions.

"This is probably one of the most exciting things I've been involved in the past couple of years," Milner said. "It's amazing that we were able to get this in place and it's at no cost to the corporation."

The Putnam County Clinic, which is run by Wellness for Life, will be located at U.S. 231 and Veteran's Highway in Greencastle in the Wood Building. It is expected to open Tuesday, Nov. 26. There are also clinics in Brazil and Montezuma that have already opened.

* The school board agreed to join a lawsuit, which is challenging the fines to employers if they do not meet certain requirements of the Affordable Health Care Act. Currently, 29 school corporations across Indiana have joined the lawsuit and it continues to gain popularity. It's at no cost to the corporation.

* The corporation received a Cohort 6 grant for $175,000 for 2013 and an additional $9,143 for the upcoming year. Cohort 6 extends Cloverdale's K-8 21st Century Learning Communities Grant, which funds before and after school programs.

* The board also approved the following personnel issues: the maternity leave of Kimberly Bailey, as well as her resignation as high school softball junior varsity coach, and the resignations of high school custodian Tia Brummett.
