The Putnam County Extension Advisory Council invites all residents to its annual meeting at the Putnam County Fairgrounds on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under.

The meal will be a catered dinner with desserts prepared by the ladies of the Extension Board. Katie Clayton will be the featured speaker for the evening.

Clayton graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor's degree in food science. She currently serves as the food science extension outreach specialist for the Department of Food Science located on Purdue's main campus in West Lafayette.

In her role, Clayton is the main point of contact for food entrepreneurs across the state assisting with one-on-one technical questions and testing for entrepreneurs wanting to start a food business in Indiana. She is a member of the New Ventures team, which is a joint effort with Purdue's Department of Agricultural Economics, providing guidance on marketing, business plan development, food manufacturing regulations and food safety.

Clayton has experience in a variety of areas including, beverage development, flavor applications and meat processing from her past positions.

A very short business meeting will also occur for Extension Board elections. Mona Smith and Linda Blocher, due to term limits, will be going off the board, necessitating at least two new individuals. Also Ami Pennington and Maxine Williams have the option to run for a second term. Williams has stated she is not seeking a second term so that will be a third person needed for a complete slate. Pennington is running again.

The nominating committee is Kerry Williams and John Scamahorn and anyone interested in running for the Extension Board is encouraged to call the Extension office 653-8411 and ask for Mark Evans for more information.

An RSVP by noon, Wednesday, Nov. 20 would be appreciated so an accurate meal count may be obtained. Tickets are available from any Extension Board member or the Purdue Extension Putnam County Office. Note the Extension Office is located at 12 Central Square (street address 152 E. Columbia St.) in the Pershing Accounting and PNC Bank Building.

People may contact the local Purdue Extension Office by calling 653-8411 for more information about the annual meeting. Sponsors have been solicited to help offset the cost of the annual meeting. Special thanks to Co-Alliance LLP, Farm Credit Services, Hendricks Power Cooperative, Parke County REMC, Poet Biofuels, Teacher's Credit Union and Tri-County Bank & Trust who typically sponsor this annual event.
