Mary Agnes (Spears) Landes, 90, of Reelsville, passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013 at Ivy Trace in Greencastle.

She was born, the oldest of four children, July 9, 1923 in Owen County, the daughter of Lee Edward Spears and Agnes Irene (Allen) Spears.

Mary graduated from Reelsville High School with the class of 1941.

She married Virgil Landes on June 28, 1942.

Mary was a member of Union United Methodist Church.

She loved flowers, especially lilacs, sending and receiving cards from family and friends and planning family dinners. She will always be remembered for her kindness and her great love for the Lord.

She said her greatest blessing and gift from God were her children and grandchildren.

Mary was a homemaker and worked with her husband Virgil on the farm. Every spring she would plant a huge vegetable garden and she would add a row of Marigolds, Zinnias, Cannas and Dahlias.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Agnes Spears; husband Virgil Landes on March 5, 2011, a brother, Roy Spears, and a sister, Betty Hudson.

She is survived by her son, David Landes and wife Nancy of Reelsville; daughter Brenda Landes Custis and husband Steve of Solsberry; sister Ethel Jordan and husband Jake of Greencastle; five grandchildren, Lisa Haggerty and husband John of North Carolina; Lori Price and husband Jim of South Carolina, Lynn Taylor and husband Mike of Naples, Fla., Chris Custis of Camby and Jason Custis of Unionville; six great-grandchildren: Darcy Stahl and husband Zach of North Carolina, Maggie Baker and husband Mark of North Carolina, Clayton Landes Robinson of North Carolina and Logan, Michael, and Morgan Taylor of Florida; two great-great-grandchildren, Madison Rae and Kendal Paige Stahl of North Carolina as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Services for Mary will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel in Brazil on Monday at 11 a.m. with Mike Goss officiating. Burial will follow at Girton Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday from 4-7 p.m. and again Monday from 10 a.m. until time of services.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Reelsville Alumni Association Scholarship Fund c/o Putnam County Foundation.
