County Jail

A number of people have been booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 3:10 p.m. on Thursday, Amanda Nichole Neier, 27, Quincy, was arrested for operating while intoxicated, possession of paraphernalia and probation violation.

At 3:45 p.m. Anthony Michael Leonard, 18, Greencastle, was charged with motor vehicle theft.

* At 9:10 a.m. Friday, Branden Vernon Buis, 30, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for disorderly conduct.

At 9:50 p.m. William Johansen, 48, Indianapolis, was booked in for operating while intoxicated.

At 11:14 p.m. Sydney Danielle Pursell, 19, Brazil, was arrested for being a minor in consumption of alcohol.

At 11:27 p.m. Charles Raymond McCune, 39, Indianapolis, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

* At 12:39 a.m. Saturday, Justin Donald Strange, 23, Fillmore, was held at the jail for possession of a controlled substance.

* At 6:05 a.m. on Sunday, Jacob Wesley Harvey, 34, Greencastle, was booked in for operating while intoxicated with a prior conviction.

At 10:16 p.m. Brandon James Query, 27, Greencastle, was arrested for probation violation.

* At 11:15 a.m. Monday, Allen Lee Johnson, 19, Noblesville, was charged with receiving stolen property and probation violation.

At 2 p.m. Sheriden LeeAnne Spiker, 26, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for forgery of checks and failure to appear.

At 2 p.m. Joshua Lee Doane, 30, Poland, was booked in on four counts of violation of home detention.

At 3:25 p.m. Kyle Todd Hyten, 24, Greencastle, was arrested for burglary, theft and possession of stolen property.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

-- At 1:05 a.m. Sunday, Michael Sinclair, 51, Greencastle, was arrested at his Sycamore Street residence by Officer Matt Huffman.

Arrested on a Putnam County warrant for dealing marijuana and dealing in a controlled substance, Sinclair was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

-- At 9:16 p.m. Saturday, Travis Gray, 24, Greencastle, was arrested at a West Berry Street residence by Sgt. Charles Inman.

Arrested on a Putnam County warrant for driving with a suspended license, Gray was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Two property-damage accidents were investigated recently by city officers.

-- At 5:58 p.m. Saturday, a car-deer accident was investigated by Officer Nick Eastham on U.S. 40, east of County Road 725, as the officer was en route to his GPD shift.

Thomas Lentes, 24, Terre Haute, was westbound on U.S. 40, driving a 2007 Chrysler Sebring, when a deer entered the roadway from the north side and the collision damaged the entire side of the car, Eastham noted.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

-- At 10:49 a.m. Nov. 21, a two-car mishap was reported on Franklin Street at the intersection of Arlington Street.

Officer Albert Epple noted that Richard Fitzsimmons, 39, Greencastle, was westbound on Franklin Street and stopped his 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier at the Arlington Street stopsign when it was struck from behind by a 2001 Toyota Corolla, driven by Ian Cornell, 30, Greencastle.

Total damage in the accident was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

Sheriff's Department

* At 7:25 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, Kory T. Dirickson, 21, Reelsville, was westbound on County Road 675 South in a 1999 Chevrolet pickup.

Dirickson told Deputy Ronnie Campbell he fell asleep and woke up as he was going into a ditch.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 5:48 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, Stacy A. Artis, 36, Cloverdale, was southbound on U.S. 231 stopped at the intersection of U.S. 40 in a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado. Kyle T. Manion, 17, Cloverdale, was northbound waiting to turn left onto U.S. 40.

Artis told Deputy Adam Hull she was stopped behind a semi and could not see the traffic signal. When the semi proceeded through the light, she followed. She could not tell Hull what color the light was.

Manion said he had the green arrow to turn, and once the semi passed, he attempted his turn, but was struck by Artis.

A witness in a different vehicle told Hull that Artis had the red light at the time.

Manion suffered a bloody lip, but signed a statement of release with Operation Life.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 2:29 a.m. on Thursday, Tamara K. Scott, 44, Fillmore, was eastbound on County Road 50 South in a 2004 Dodge Stratus when she hit a deer.

Deputy Philip Troyer estimated damages at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 12:30 p.m. Brandy Birge, 30, Greencastle, was eastbound on Indianapolis Road in Greencastle just west of Kentwood Drive in a 2004 Chrysler Sebring.

Birge told Lt. Donnie Pettit she braked due to traffic stopped in front of her. She then lost control on wet pavement, leaving the road on the south side and hitting a tree stump.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 1:25 p.m., Paul A. Barber, 43, Indianapolis, was southbound on County Road 825 East, rounding a curve onto County Road 525 North in a 2001 Toyota Tundra when he lost control on wet pavement.

Barber traveled left of center and struck an oncoming 2007 Mercury Montego driven by Lisa Everett, 37, Cedar Lake.

Everett was treated by Operation Life for shoulder pain.

Lt. Pettit estimated damages at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 6:52 p.m. Dustin K. Brauer, 34, Reelsville, was eastbound on County Road 550 South in a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville. As he approached the 90-degree turn onto County Road 50 West, he could not negotiate the corner.

Brauer left the road and crashed into a fence owned by Wilson Cattle Farms.

Deputy Matt Biggs estimated damages at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 4:59 a.m. on Friday, Cindy A. Castille, 52, Roachdale, was southbound on County Road 25 West in a 2003 Kia Spectra when she hit a deer.

Deputy Biggs estimated damages at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 7:14 a.m., Jessica D. Rude, 18, Bainbridge, was eastbound on Range Line Road about to make a 90-degree turn onto County Road 225 East in a 2008 Pontiac Torrent.

Deputy Campbell advised Rude came into the corner too fast and slid into the ditch, hitting a utility pole.

Rude was treated for a minor burn on her upper leg.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 10:14 a.m. Laura K. Major, 23, Roachdale, was southbound on U.S. 231, starting down Waterworks Hill in a 2007 Ford Focus.

She told Capt. Danny Wallace she tapped her brakes and lost control, spinning 180 degrees as she crossed the northbound lanes and hitting a guardrail.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 11:49 p.m. Thomas J. Eaton, 49, Roachdale, was southbound on County Road 665 East in a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix.

As he approached a sweeping left turn, Eaton braked to slow down, but lost control. Eaton left the roadway and hit a power pole.

He told Deputy Mike Downing he did not have insurance of the vehicle, so the deputy cited him for operating without financial responsibility and transported him home.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Megan M. Havens, 22, Greencastle, was traveling on County Road 190 West in a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt.

She told Deputy Troyer she observed a farm truck pulling out of a field and that she was rounding a bend in the road. At this time, a deer entered the roadway and Havens was unable to avoid colliding with the animal.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.
