Banner Graphic: When did you get into swimming?
Zane Crosby: I started swimming when I was in kindergarten and I joined the summer swim team after that. In high school I had to pick between wrestling and swimming and I was kind of burned out on wrestling so I picked swimming and it's been good ever since.

BG: What's your favorite part of swimming and being on the swim team?
ZC: Probably the team-bonding stuff. We go out to eat, hang out at peoples houses and just have fun.

BG: What's your favorite event?
ZC: Probably the 100 (freestyle). I'm hoping to break that school record this year. ... It's 49 seconds flat. I saw mine at 52-something in sectionals last year, so I've got a lot of time to drop.

BG: What's it like being able to rely on your teammates in swimming? Do you swim faster in relays?
ZC: It makes me swim a lot faster because I can see where we are in the race. When I'm in the water, I can't really see when I'm by myself so when I see where we are I can see if I need to catch up or cheer on my teammates.

BG: What is the biggest lesson you've learned from the sports you've played?
ZC: Just to always work hard because hard work pays off. ... Last year I started out in distance and in practice I worked hard in the sprints. After (the coach) switched me to sprint I ended up with the fastest time in the 100 and I started the year doing the 500.

BG: What are your plans after high school?
ZC: I'm not really sure where I want to go to college, but I know I'm going to be an orthopedic surgeon. Hopefully I'll get into the IU med school for my graduate.
