Dec. 7 craft show, Just Dessert to benefit Clothe-a-Child effort

CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale Community Clothe-a-Child Committee and Dance Workshop will present their annual Clothe-a-Child Craft Show and Just Dessert, a benefit for the Clothe-a-Child program, on Saturday Dec. 7.

The craft show will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Cloverdale High School Auxilary Gym (enter via door 14). It is open to the public with no admission fee.

Vendors will include representatives from Scentsy, Thirty One, Mary Kay, Pink Zebra, Wildtree, Pampered Chef, Origami Owl, The Chic Bee, Advocare, ViSalus Health Sciences, Jamberry Nails and Grace Adele. Also, JTB Creations, Toddler Chairs by Alice Bailey, handcrafted items by Nancy Hayden, hand-knitted scarves by Patricia Coffman, handmade jewelry by Donna Baskin, handmade designs by Dessa, P.J.'s Jewelry and Crafts, handmade items by Arliss Larkin, Dreamscents Soaps and Sundries by Jane, handmade pine needle baskets and crocheted items by Connie Moolenaar and handmade signs by Holly of Ratty Sign Co.

Vendors are still being accepted until Dec. 1 by contacting Lita Sandy at bsandy@ccrtc.com.

The event will include a special guest from Personal Ponies of Belle Union. Miss Sassy, a dwarf pony, will be at the craft show to greet children throughout the event. Children can pet her, groom her, read to her and become her "bestie" on the spot.

Sassy will also make an appearance at "Just Dessert" during intermission for more photo opportunities. There will be several miniature ponies from Personal Ponies in the Cloverdale Christmas Parade earlier in the day as well (beginning at 1 p.m.)

The curtain goes up on "Just Dessert," a benefit for clothe-a-child at 6 p.m. in the Cloverdale High School cafeteria (enter north doors into cafeteria with admission being a donation of your choice at the door). Those who reserve a table will find it with their family or business name on it. You will be served a dessert and drink at your table so you may sit and enjoy the show.

To reserve a table, seating for six is $50, while seating for eight is $75. To make reservations, person may contact Becky Mannan at First National Bank main branch. There will be stadium seating on the lower level only on a first-come, first-served basis.

Students from Dance Workshop will be performing along with Cloverdale Jazz Band, students from Middle School Choir, Cascade Ladies Choir, Melissa Claycomb, Tony Patrick, Hope Evans, students from DePauw University, Lizzie LeBrun, Taylor Strong, Dancing with the Putnam County Stars 2013 champs Ashley Clute and Mike Balka plus a special bluegrass band appearance.

A silent auction will be set up as spectators enter. There will also be special items auctioned off during the show, including two season tickets for the 2014 Putnam County Playhouse season, which will include gift cards for dinner locally. Also to be auctioned are two tickets to Dancing With the Putnam County Stars to be held May in Cloverdale at C Bar C Expo Center.

Meanwhile, the third annual Dance Crew competition is on. The 2012 winners, the crew from First National Bank, is "sitting this one out" but six crews will be vying for the title.

Vote for your favorite dance crew by donating to their cans before, during or immediately after the show. The crew raising the most money will have its group name on the Best Dance Crew plaque and pride knowing that they helped raise money for needy children in the community.

In 2012 the effort resulted in buying Christmas and warm clothing for 70 children in the Cloverdale Community Schools. Persons can learn more by contacting school nurse Kelly Stevens at Cloverdale Elementary School.

As a side note, those involved in the Clothe-a-Child event, in particular Dance Workshop students and their families, are invited to attend a party in their honor at Personal Ponies on Saturday, Dec. 28 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be food and crafts provided for the kids. Personal Ponies is located adjacent to the Belle Union Cemetery.
