ROACHDALE -- The North Putnam wrestling team opened its season against visiting Tri-West on Tuesday, losing 55-22 to the Bruins.

Picking up wins for the Cougars were Jordan Sarr (132, pin), Caleb Winings (138, pin), Blake Everts (145, pin) and Grant Bryan (220, major decision).

Alan Aynes (3-1 decision), Ben Wiatt (182, 4-2 decision) and Trae Straziscar (9-5 decision) each lost close matches.

The Cougar wrestlers had a few wrestlers miss the match because of injuries but still improved results from the match against the Bruins last season.

"The young Cougar wrestlers are excited about their chances to improve every match," NPHS coach Bucky Kramer said.

The Cougars are back in action on Saturday at the Cascade Invitational where they will face Monrovia, Cascade, Indianapolis Manual, Brebeuf Jesuit and Brownsburg.
