Boys Putnam County tournament postponed to Saturday

The 2013 Boys Putnam County basketball tournament has been postponed until Saturday morning, with the first game between Cloverdale and Greencastle set to begin at 10 a.m.

The game between North Putnam and South Putnam will begin at around noon.

GHS athletic director Greg Hill told the Banner Graphic on Friday morning the athletic directors and principals for all for county schools were together on the decision but that, as the host school, Greencastle made the final call.

The event, originally scheduled to start Friday at 6:30 p.m., was in question because snow and icy roads forced all of the county schools to cancel classes on Friday.

Other conflicts potentially arise on having a Saturday morning start, including an SAT test and other community events, but it is unknown how many athletes would be affected.

"There's all kinds of things on a Saturday morning," Hill said, "but to be able to get four schools to have the same day off to try to move this was nearly impossible."

The evening session will be unchanged, with the consolation game set to begin at 6:30 p.m. and the championship at 8:15 p.m.

As of 11:15, Hill said he had yet to contact any game officials to notify then of the change.

The girls' basketball game Greencastle was scheduled to host against Edgewood on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. but that has been postponed for a different, yet-undetermined day.

If the tournament is postponed again a make-up date is unknown. Indiana High School Athletic Association bylaws prevent games or practices on Sundays.
