Fillmore, Bainbridge teams win Spell Bowl competition

South Putnam Central Elementary hosted 18 teams in the recent 21st annual Regional Indiana Academic Elementary Spell Bowl competition.

Fillmore Elementary School captured first in the Red Division with a score of 44.

Members of the Fillmore team are Rylee Brownewell, Kensley Cash, Siddalee Cox, Boston Clark, Olivia Sherfield, Lane Robinson, Jayden Vensko, Colin Lundy, Samantha Jones, Riley Stone and coaches Wendy Danner and Barbara Bennett.

Also placing first in the fourth grade-only Yellow Division was Bainbridge Elementary coached by Laurie Hensley and Laura Martin.

Bainbridge team members Will Buescher, Handley Everman, Katharina Hornbuckle, Grace Kinkead, Seth Lawrenz, Ellis Lyons, Ben Pierce, Maddie Porter, Zach Purdue and Hanna Walton.

Local schools competing in the Red Division were:

-- Roachdale Elementary, coached by Dan McMurtry, second place.

Team members: Carleigh Copeland, Kysen Montgomery, Austin Tripp, Madelynn Burgess, Abigail Gaddis, Matthew McHargue, Kelen Montgomery, Jayden Simpson, Aiyana Ramminger and Ashley Weir.

-- Central Elementary, coached by Cindy Evens, David Mann and Susan Girton, fourth place.

Team members: Jacob Beadles, Brionna Egold, Paige Heagy, Devin Huff, Sarah Jones, Wyatt Montgomery, Adam Phillips, Evan Steffy, Lilly Vittetow, Trevor Vanihel and Haylee Wood.

Competing in the Orange Division:
