County Jail

Four people have been booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 1:54 a.m. on Wednesday, Wesley January, 23, Greencastle, was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

At 4 p.m. Paul Dillon Brown, 21, Indianapolis, was charged with probation violation.

* At 12:10 a.m. on Thursday, Kyle Seth Hood, 26, Roachdale, was lodged at the jail for failure to appear and false informing.

At 3:40 p.m. Tiffany Crowe, 23, Indianapolis, was booked in for failure to appear.

City Police

A 24-year-old Greencastle man was arrested early Friday in connection with a reported theft at the Walmart store on Indianapolis Road, Greencastle City Police said.

Timothy Bray was arrested by Officer Nick Eastham at 2:56 a.m. Friday at an Avenue C residence after reportedly taking a case of Coors Light beer, two sticks of beef jerky and a package of Hershey's Gold chocolate candies.

Total value of the stolen items was listed as $19.95.

Five recent accidents were investigated by City Police officers.

-- At 8:03 p.m. Tuesday, a car-deer accident was reported on State Road 240 near Fillmore Road.

Phyllis Girton, 59, Fillmore, was westbound, driving a 2012 Toyota Prius when a deer ran out in front of her.

Damage to the Prius was estimated at $2,500-$5,000 by Officer Kyle Lee.

-- At 8:35 p.m. Sunday, a one-vehicle mishap on the Elbert Irwin Bridge, west of Greencastle on West Walnut Street Road, was investigated by Sgt. Charles Inman.

Tina Jackson, 43, Greencastle, lost control of her 2004 Ford Expedition on black ice on the roadway as she topped the bridge, striking a guardrail, spinning 180 degrees and striking the guardrail again.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

-- At 4:16 p.m. Dec. 5, a one-car accident was reported on Avenue B at the south exit of Taco Bell.

James Perdue, 63, Greencastle, was attempting to pull out of Taco Bell onto Avenue B when his 2008 Volkswagen Jetta hung up on the concrete drainage section of the driveway.

When he accelerated to get free, the car went across the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Office Ed Wilson listed total damage at $5,000-$10,000.

-- At 8:02 p.m. Dec. 4, a deer ran into the path of a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Brandi Burgeson Baxter, 31, Greencastle.

Officer Lee estimated damage to the truck at $1,000-$2,500 in the mishap on Cemetery Road.

Although struck by the truck, the deer got up and ran off, police said.

-- At 1:13 p.m. Dec. 4, a two-car accident was reported on South Jackson Street at Veterans Highway.

Keyara Morlan, 18, Reelsville, was stopped westbound on Veterans Highway, waiting to turn south in a 2008 Dodge Caliber when she saw a northbound vehicle turning right and pulled out without seeing another northbound car, a 2006 Chrysler Sebring, driven by Gary Figg, 48, Terre Haute.

Figg was headed straight through the intersection when his car was struck by the Morlan vehicle, Capt. Mike Hanlon reported.

The collision resulted in an estimated total damage of $2,500-$5,000.

Sheriff's Department

* At 3:40 p.m. on Monday, Lori Hutchison, 50, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 210 North just east of County Road 225 East in a 1998 Jeep Cherokee.

Hutchison told Lt. Donnie Pettit she lost control due to ice and snow, leaving the south side of the road and hitting a tree.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 7:53 a.m. on Thursday, Brittany L. Cooper, 28, Bainbridge, was northbound on U.S. 231 just south of County Road 1400 North in a 2013 Ford Explorer when she hit a deer with the front passenger side.

Deputy Ronnie Campbell estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 12:41 a.m. on Friday, Kevin R. Gilley Jr., 31, Greencastle, was northbound on County Road 100 East just north of County Road 200 South in a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Gilley told Deputy Josh Boller a deer ran into the road and he lost control trying to avoid the animal.

The car left the road and entered the ditch, where it overturned.

Gilley was not injured in the accident.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.
