Greencastle boys' JV tops Cloverdale

Saturday, December 14, 2013

The Greencastle JV boys' basketball team evened its season record by defeating visiting Cloverdale on Thursday 41-21.

The Tiger Cubs were getting open looks but nothing to drop in the first quarter as juniors Tyler Lotz and Fred Fislar scored seven of the Clovers' points for a 12-5 lead.

The young Tiger Cubs ramped up the defensive pressure in the second stanza, forcing several turnovers and building a 20-19 lead at the half.

Several GHS plays contributed to the defensive pressure, getting steals and deflections that led to easy fast break baskets.

Greencastle kept the pressure on, suffocating the Clovers and allowing just two total points after the break. In the game, GHS forced 19 turnovers and lost the ball just nine times itself.

Junior Calvin Hughes led a balanced Tiger Cub attack with 11 points, followed by Noah Cook with nine. Fislar led the Clovers with 10.

Greencastle (1-1, 1-0 WCC) travels to Sullivan on Saturday for a 6 p.m. contest. The Tiger Cubs' next home game is Saturday, Dec. 21 against South Vermillion.
