Shawn C. Gallagher

Shawn C. Gallagher, 48, of Valparaiso, formerly of Highland, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born on Aug. 14, 1965 in Gary, Shawn graduated from Highland High School in 1983 and Calumet College of St. Joseph in 1988.

He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, president of the Valparaiso High School Quarterback Club, coach of his daughter's travel softball teams, and an avid Notre Dame and Chicago Bears fan.

Shawn and his wife, Colleen were married on June 9, 1990 and resided in Hobart for 14 years prior to moving to Valparaiso.

Shawn is survived by his wife, Colleen; parents: Lawrence and Delphine Gallagher of Highland; children Patrick and Meghan Gallagher; siblings Patricia (Gary) Becker M.D. of Tucson, Ariz., Kathleen (Dan) Benassi of Greencastle, Anne Pickering of Portage, Mary (John) Timko of Highland, Alice (John) Schulze of Manchester, Mo., and Christopher (Susan) Gallagher of Herndon, Va.; in-laws Charles and Elizabeth Crowder of Valparaiso; sister-in-law, Amy (Erik) McDonald of Kouts; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Michael Pickering.

Visitation was held Friday, Dec. 13 at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso.

Funeral Mass was conducted Saturday, Dec. 14 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Valparaiso, with Father Michael Hoffman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shawn C. Gallagher Benefit Fund at Centier Bank, LaPorte Ave., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
