Sheriff's Department

* At 5:53 p.m. on Monday, jail officer Jeremiah Jackson, 26, Greencastle, was moving the jail van from the sallyport at the back of the jail to park it in its assigned location.

As Jackson was backing the van into its spot, he believed it to be stuck on snow and ice.

He opened the driver's side door and leaned out to look back at his alignment and distance. As he did, his foot slipped off the step-up and pulled him outward, causing his other foot to slip off the brake pedal.

The van then rolled backward with the door open. The open door laid open against the rear of the jail car, a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria.

The impact caused damage to the van door and front fender, as well as the left taillight of the car.

Deputy Mike Downing estimated damage at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 9:34 a.m. on Tuesday, Haley E. Berg, 23, Indianapolis, was westbound on County Road 25 South in a 2006 Ford Fusion when she lost control on snow and sand.

The car drifted off the shoulder of the road, entering a ditch and hitting some small trees.

Sgt. Craig Sibbitt estimated damage at $5,001-$10,000.
