Bainbridge man arrested for public intoxication at North Putnam High School
ROACHDALE -- On late Friday afternoon a Bainbridge man was arrested on the North Putnam High School and Middle School property after gaining access to the schools.
Michael A. Lewis, 56, was arrested after he came to the middle school to pick up a child at the end of the school day and appeared to be intoxicated.
Lewis was apparently acting erratically and disorderly, North Putnam School Corporation Superintendent Dan Noel said. Lewis had no weapons when he entered the building.
Teachers and administrative staff at the middle and high schools escorted Lewis outside of the building and contacted local authorities.
Bainbridge Town Marshal Rodney Fenwick responded to the call and determined that Lewis was intoxicated. Lewis was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct and trespassing. He was then transported to Putnam County Jail and booked in at 5:54 p.m.
The North Putnam School Corporation sent out a statement to the community about the incident.
The schools will be reviewing the security footage and will be reviewing its safety procedures to insure the safety of the students return for the second semester.
