POLAND -- An elderly man was found dead in his home on Wednesday after family members requested a welfare check because they couldn't contact him.

Richard E. Newman, 68, was found deceased in a living room chair in his home on County Road 1200 South.

Indiana State Police are still investigating the death, but there were no visible signs of foul play and no apparent forced entry to the home. Newman did have a medical condition that may be associated with his death.

An autopsy will be conducted at Terre Haute Regional Hospital on Friday.
