  • Interesting picks, What criteria is used to determine these selections? When will the story come out for the WCC selections? Have heard partial results but not a complete list.

  • After reading the fine story about All County selection for girls volleyball, I find it unsettling that the same work was not done for the boys All County Football Squads. Every volleyball player had a brief note regarding why she was selected. This only shows for the obvious Player of the Year Football selections. What gives, too many sugar plums over the holidays? How about some equal time for the men?!? Stats and what got them there!!

    Response by Grant Wieman:
The all-county volleyball team was selected by the Banner Graphic. The all-county football team was selected by coaches, and their criteria was mentioned.
  • Grant, thank you for the response. I knew the WCC All Conference Football selection was by coaches nomination, I did not know that the All County was. I did not see it noted in the articles for Defense or Offense. Where was the criteria noted? Did not see stats either. Will there be a story about the WCC All Conference Team? I can not find anything online about that.

    Response by Grant Wieman:
All-county is traditionally a collaborative effort between coaches and media but we couldn't make the schedules work this year. I didn't want to put stats in for some players and none for others (like offensive lineman, who don't get stats).
  • Thanks again Grant, but there is a stat that Offensive Linemen do have, the Pancake Block. Jacob Williams led South Putnam's linemen with 40 Pancake blocks. Those stats are published on Maxpreps website and can be found easily. The Pancake Block is a block that takes the defensive player out of the runners lane by basically putting him on the ground. Not all teams have been using this particular stat yet, but it is a good indicator of a lineman's effectiveness, besides rushing yards per game. It is also a good stat for running backs to see. Together, great blockers and great runners win games.
