DANVILLE -- The Greencastle boys' basketball team traveled to Danville to take on the Warriors Friday night and came back to Greencastle with a loss, 68-31.

Greencastle (3-3, 0-1 West Central) could not match the Warriors (8-1) speed or size and on defense it was slow and allowed easy buckets in the paint.

The game started off on a torrid pace and at the first timeout with 3:58 left in the first frame, the score was already 12-12.

After that, Greencastle only eight points in the next 20 minutes bringing the score at the end of the third quarter to 50-20.

Greencastle's biggest struggle came on the boards on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. In the first half, the Warriors brought down 26 rebounds and the Tiger Cubs only got four.

"We knew that it would be a factor in the game and I did not think we handled it very well," GHS head coach Troy Greenlee said.

The Tiger Cubs allowed Danville to bring down 14 offensive rebounds in the game, 12 in the first half.

"A team this size, the first thing you have to do is block out, and we were not doing that. We were allowing them to get second shots and they were shooting layups," Greenlee said.

GHS only shot 29 percent from the field and only made a total of three field goals in the second and third quarters combined.

"We were shooting perimeter shots and those were not going in and we get in a hole and cannot dig back," Greenlee said.

Even though in the game the Tiger Cubs were down by 40 at one point and could not get anything to go their way, they never gave up.

After senior Jonathan Newgent fouled out midway through the fourth quarter, Greenlee subbed in junior Tanner Nicholson, who made the best of his limited playing time.

Nicholson scored six points on 2-of-3 shooting and made both free throws he attempted.

"There were a couple guys out there that even though the score was out of reach they still played hard and showed heart," Greenlee said. "That tells me that guys will be willing to work no matter what.

"Some guys kind of backed down, I thought some, even when it got toward the end of the game, were still working hard. It's not much, but maybe we can build off of that."
