Free walking program to begin at DPU Tennis and Track Center

Thursday, January 9, 2014

The start of the winter edition of Walking Wednesdays (and Fridays) was postponed Wednesday by continued snowy and cold conditions and icy parking areas.

It is now slated to begin Friday, Jan. 10 at the DePauw University Tennis and Track Center.

Anyone who would like to walk for exercise and is looking for someone to walk with or a place to walk this winter is invited to join others in the community in walking or running each Wednesday and Friday from 7-9 a.m. at the DePauw facility near Blackstock Stadium.

Walkers should enter and exit from the north doors by using Hill Street to access the north parking lot.

The free program is open to residents of all ages. Although not timed, participants should check in and receive recognition for participating in at least 10 walks.

Participants under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

If inclement weather exists, that day's walk could be canceled.

Dates are: Jan. 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29 and 31, and Feb. 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26 and 28.

The walking program is sponsored by the Putnam County Health Coalition, Johnson Nichols Health Clinic, Purdue Extension Service, People Pathways, Putnam County Board of Health, Putnam County Hospital, the Senior Center, DePauw and the Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department.
