Work in Progress

Tuesday, January 14, 2014
Milder temperatures and vanishing snow have helped spawn a return to work this week on renovations and repairs to building facades in downtown Greencastle. Most notably, a construction crew Tuesday afternoon measures a section of the front of the building owned by Lester and Judy Wilson at the corner of Vine and Washington streets, a block east of the courthouse square. In addition to being slated for an upgrade as part of the facade portion of the Stellar Grant, the building was involved in the May 17 fire that damaged four downtown businesses. Affected by the blaze were Wilson's Photography, Wilson's Formal Wear and Buzz Bomb Graphics; the Pawn Store; the dental office of Dr. Perry Wainman and Greencastle Furniture.

  • I sure do miss Greencastle and the downtown buildings. I like the way the building facades are being renovated to their original glory.

  • This project seems to have gone on forever and doesn't add anything to the community!

  • A lot still has to get done. Hopefully we can see the 26 E. Washington St. building put back together with doors and window on Vine St. Then we can clean, paint, redo the hardwood floor again and see what we can make happen to try and open something back up.
