DePauw swim teams earn splits in dual meet finales

Men

The 11th-ranked DePauw Tigers finished the dual meet portion of their schedule with a split of the double-dual at the University of Chicago. The Tigers topped Illinois Tech, 220-40, and lost to 12th-ranked Chicago, 178-116, to finish 6-2 in dual meets.

Blake Lehmann won the 50-yard freestyle (21.18) and was third in the 100 butterfly (51.89), while Stephen McMurt-ry claimed the other individual win in the 1000 free (9:55.35).

Casey Hooker finished second in both the 200 fly (1:53.95) and the 100 fly (51.05) with Alex Grissom doing the same in the 200 free (1:42.82) and the 500 free (4:45.35).

Also turning in second-place showings were Chris Ercoli in the 100 backstroke (54.80), Matt Gleason in the 100 breast (58.96), Jack Burgeson in the 50 free (21.41), Alex Alfonso in the 100 free (46.96), George Morrison in the 200 back (2:02.48) and Andrew Petersen in the 200 breaststroke (2:12.41).

The Tigers' 200 medley relay of Lehmann, Gleason, Hooker and Burgeson won in 1:33.88 and the 400 free relay of Hooker, Grissom, Burgeson and Lehmann was second in 3:08.19.

Women

DePauw's 15th-ranked women wrapped up the dual meet portion of the schedule with a split as the Tigers topped Illinois Tech, 216-13, and lost to 10th-ranked Chicago, 173-114 to finish 4-3.

Angela Newlon collected three wins for the Tigers as she touched first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.77) and the 500 free (5:00.46) and was second in the 200 individual medley (2:13.81).

Caroline Bridges won the 50 free (24.73) and was second in the 100 free (53.36), while Allison Kirby picked up a first in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.81) and was second in the 100 breast (1:09.97).

Emily Weber won the 1650 free (17:53.94) and was second in the 500 free (5:13.47)

Morgan Graves placed second in both the 200 butterfly (2:17.51) and the 100 fly (1:02.09) and Annie Graves was runner-up in the 200 backstroke (2:10.56) and third in the 100 back (1:00.84).

DePauw's 200 medley relay of Annie Graves, Kirby, Newlon and Bridges finished second in 1:51.55 as did the 400 free relay of Weber, Bridges, Erin Horne and Kirsten Olson in 3:37.36.

The Tigers return to the pool at the North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Denison University, Feb. 12-15.
