County Jail

Two people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 12:50 a.m. on Saturday, Keith Clampitt, 28, Avon, was arrested on nonsupport of a dependent.

* At 3:10 a.m., Ashlee Elizabeth Elliott, 27, Bainbridge, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

City Police

Greencastle City Police officers were called to Crescent Drive on the complaint of an underage drinking party Saturday night.

Responding to the 744 Crescent Drive residence of Ashley Frye, 26, officers issued court summonses for furnishing alcohol to minors to both Frye and John A. Shipman Jr., 52, Terre Haute.

Meanwhile, cited for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor were Evan Coble, 18, Greencastle, a Greencastle male juvenile, a Greencastle female juvenile and an Avon juvenile.

Capt. Chris Jones was joined in the investigation by GPD Officers Kyle Lee and Eric Vaughan and Reserve Officer Jes Seipel.

At 2:44 a.m. Monday, Officer Vaughan was called to the Taco Bell parking lot at Indianapolis Road and Warren Drive to investigate a suspicious vehicle on the property.

He issued a court summons to Joseph A. Vaborski, 19, Greencastle, for possession of paraphernalia after smelling an odor of marijuana but being unable to find any marijuana within the vehicle.

Two recent property-damage accidents were reported by city officers.

-- At 8:13 a.m. Saturday, a mishap occurred on the Operation Life headquarters parking lot at 513 Bloomington St. as Jonathon Newgent, 18, Greencastle, was plowing snow in a 2011 Ford F-250 owned by JTN Services, Greencastle.

Officer Ed Wilson reported that Newgent did not see a parked 2006 Ford F-150, owned by Michael E. Smith, Greencas-tle, and struck the other truck in its front corner with the salt spreader attachment on his truck.

Total damage was listed at $2,500-$5,000.

-- At 11:07 a.m. Friday, a two-vehicle accident was reported on Tennessee Street, 1,000 feet east of Bloomington Street.

Driving a 2009 Toyota Camry, Judy Miller, 69, Greencastle, was leaving an adjacent parking area to enter Tennessee Street when her car reportedly slid on the ice and snow and struck a 2001 GMC Sierra, driven by Axl Overstreet, 21, Brazil.

Overstreet was eastbound on Tennessee Street and was unable to avoid the collision when the Miller car slid into his path, Officer Wilson noted.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

Sheriff's Dept.

* At 4:42 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, Gregory A. Jeffries, 21, Rockville, was eastbound on U.S. 36 when he lost control of his vehicle due to road conditions.

The 2000 Ford Taurus left the south side of the roadway, went down an embankment and came to rest tangled in a fence.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 10:38 a.m. on Friday, Amber D. Clark, 34, Terre Haute, was northbound on County Road 725 East when she lost control of her 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander on ice in a corner and struck a 2008 Jeep Wrangler driven by Brianna Sumner, 19, Coatesville.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

At 11:55 a.m. Friday, Robert B. Beene, 36, Greencastle, was backing onto County Road 500 North from the parking lot of Lifespring Church following a fire.

Meanwhile, a North Putnam School Corporation 2013 International Amtran RE bus, which was being used as a rehabilitation bus for area firefighters, was parked on County Road 500 North facing west.

Beene, driving a 1992 Sutphen Ariel Truck for the Greencastle Fire Department, advised Chief Deputy Tom Helmer, that he was backing up and the nozzle portion of the bucket of the truck struck the left-rear corner of the school bus.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

At 5:53 p.m., Lou A. Fordice, 55, Russellville, was eastbound on U.S. 36 when she hit a snowdrift that caused her to lose control of her 2012 Ford Edge.

Fordice told Deputy Philip Troyer that she could not control the vehicle when she got into the snowdrift and it went across the westbound lane off the roadway, striking a no-passing zone sign and a tree stump.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

At 7:35 p.m., Donald J. Hubbard Jr., 18, Roachdale, was eastbound on U.S. 36 when he hit a snow drift that he could not see due to the blowing snow.

Hubbard advised Troyer that he hit his brakes and lost control of the vehicle causing his 1995 Ford Explorer to travel across the westbound lane, down a ditch next to a creek and on top of a large rock.

Bainbridge Volunteer Fire Department was first on scene, but left prior to Troyer's arrival.

Due to the location, weather and safety the vehicle was not towed and left at the scene to get at a later time.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 3:27 p.m. Saturday, L.A. Manning, 54, Cloverdale, was southbound on County Road 250 East heading left of center over the crest of the hill to avoid snow drifting in a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire.

As Manning crested the hill, Tayler L. Arnold, 18, Fillmore, crested the hill at the same time in a 2004 Jeep Liberty, resulting in a head-on collision.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

At 5:34 p.m. on Saturday, Lonnie L. Keeney, 56, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 and lost control of his 1997 Dodge Ram due to icy conditions.

Deputy Kyle Gibbons said the vehicle struck a utility pole and then subsequently struck a fence owned by Tim Perkins of Greencastle.

Damage was estimated at $25,000-$50,000.

* At 7:55 p.m. on Sunday, Jeremy S. Frye, 38, Gosport, was westbound on State Road 42 West in a 2005 Chevrolet Trail Blazer, when he swerved to miss a deer and sideswiped a guardrail just east of County Road 1200 West in Owen County.

The guardrail showed no significant damage and no injuries were reported.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.
