Water, Water Everywhere

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

A water main break just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday shut down many of the streets surrounding the Greencastle Fire Department as crews attempted to fix the issue. The water main, which appeared to be split in half, spewed water for well over an hour as Joe Spiker Excavating and the Greencastle Utility Department struggled to reach the valves, which were frozen underground. The cause for the break is not yet known, but is likely due to the cold. Assisting at the scene were the Greencastle Police Department, the DePauw Police Department, the Greencastle Street Department and the Greencastle Fire Department.

  • Was there any water damage to the 1st Christian church? Or any other buildings? Too bad it had to happen during such frigid temps. Hope no one was injured.

  • No damage to First Christian. Thanks for asking.

Be careful in the parking lot and the alley! Lots of ice.
