Tiger Cub JV defeats Cougars, stays unbeaten in conference
ROACHDALE -- The Greencastle JV boys' basketball team remained undefeated in the county as well as the WCC by defeating North Putnam 31-22 Thursday night.
Noah Cook opened the scoring by hitting two deep thee-pointers and the young Tiger Cubs never trailed in the contest. A low-scoring first quarter ended in favor of GHS by a 6-2 count.
Employing an aggressive full-court press, Greencastle outscored the Cougars 11-4 in the second stanza and led 17-6 at the break.
Cook led the scoring barrage for the Tiger Cubs, tallying 10 first half points.
Coming out inspired in the third quarter, the Cougars held the Tiger Cubs to 4 points in the stanza while scoring 10 themselves setting up for exciting final quarter.
Greencastle, however, held-off the feisty Cougars and came out on top.
The strong defensive effort by the Tiger Cubs forced 18 Cougar turnovers and 14 steals, many leading to easy transition baskets. Nick Costin, Tanner Nicholson and Anthony Rossok led the defensive charge.
Cook and North Putnam's Austin Judy tied for game-high honors with 15 points each.
Greencastle (5-3, 4-0 WCC) travels to Tri-West Saturday for a 6 p.m. contest.
