Candidate filings continue as deadline approaches

A Wednesday filing with the Putnam County Voter Registration office now gives the Republican Party a complete slate of county council candidates for the upcoming primary and general elections.

Jill D. Bridgewater has filed to run for Putnam County Council District 2. She joins incumbents David Fuhrman (District 1), Darrel Thomas (District 3) and H. Keith Berry (District 4) on the May 6 Republican primary ballot.

At the state level, District 44 State Rep. Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) filed for reelection on Tuesday. Seeking his third term, Baird is currently the only candidate for the position from either party.

The District 4 U.S. House of Representatives race is taking shape, with incumbent Todd Rokita facing challenger Kevin J. Grant on the Republican ticket. On the Democratic, side four men -- John Dale, Roger D. Day, John L. Futrell and Howard Joseph Pollchik -- are seeking the District 4 seat.

Other recent local filings have included Gregory L. Arnold (R) for Marion Township trustee and Howard Thomas (R) and Nancy McBride (R) for Monroe Township Advisory Board.

The deadline for candidates to file to appear on the primary ballot is noon this Friday, Feb. 7.
