Putnam Retired Teachers offering $500 scholarship

The Putnam County Retired Teachers Association will award a $500 scholarship to a third- or fourth-year college student who aspires to become a future educator.

The recipient must be a Putnam County high school graduate and an Indiana college/university student enrolled in an undergraduate program that will result in a degree in education.

Interested students must submit a letter of application which includes the applicant's name, current address, name of high school, and year of graduation.

In addition, there must be a brief (one- or two-page) description of personal interests and activities, experiences in a supervisory capacity with children or adults, and aspirations and progress toward a career as an educator.

Applicants must also include a letter of recommendation from a Putnam County high school teacher (not a relative), a letter of recommendation and a scholastic transcript from the college/university verifying the applicant's current enrollment and academic status, and other information that the applicant feels in pertinent.

The deadline is April 1.
