Fillmore FD needs 65 people at Monday hearing

FILLMORE -- As part of the competitive process to obtain grant funding for a new fire station, the Fillmore Fire Department is looking for help from the public on Monday, Feb. 10.

At 7 p.m. at Fillmore Town Hall, there will be a public hearing regarding the proposed project.

The department and town are looking for at least 65 citizens to attend the meeting, as each person who attends and signs in counts toward the point system used in determining grant funding.

Attendees need not be limited to residents of Fillmore or even Marion Township, town council member Tami Van Rensselaer said Thursday. Any person who lives in a place that might be served by the Fillmore Fire Department is eligible.

For example, in the last year, Fillmore firefighters have provided assistance at notable fires such as the downtown Greencastle fire and at Lifespring Church.

Through mutual aid agreements, this basically opens up eligibility to the entire county, as well as some residents in western Hendricks County.

The Town of Fillmore and the Fillmore Fire Department is requesting the help of the entire community in this process.
