GHS JV downs Brown County 46-11

Monday, February 10, 2014

The Greencastle Boy's JV Basketball team rode a strong defensive effort and soundly defeated Brown County 46-11 Saturday in McAnally Center.

Cole Edgar opened the scoring with a quick deuce and the Tiger Cubs rolled from there.

Employing an aggressive full-court press, the young Tiger Cubs forced numerous Eagle turnovers and raced to an 8-0 lead after one quarter. Continuing the pressure, Greencastle outscored Brown County 19-3 in the second stanza and took a commanding 27-3 lead at the half.

The constant pressure employed by Greencastle led to 20 Eagle turnovers, many leading to easy baskets in transition.

Coming out in the second half, Greencastle employed a 2-3 zone but still only gave up two points in the third quarter.

Mixing half-court defenses and lineups in the final quarter, Greencastle continued to score at will while all players on the roster saw substantial playing time.

All 11 players saw action and 10 scored at least two points in the contest.

No players reached double figures for the Tiger Cub, yet the balance was evident. Cole Edgar and Noah Cook led all scorers with eight points each. Josh Cochrane led the Eagles with four points.

On the defensive end, Tanner Nicholson set the tone with nine deflections and four steals. Nick Costin also had a strong night, scoring five points to go along with six deflections and three steals.

Greencastle (6-5, 4-1 WCC) is off until Thursday when it travels to Rockville for a JV/Varsity doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m.
