BAINBRIDGE -- The Bainbridge Community Center will host a Cover Crop and Soil Health Forum, featuring a live video stream from the opening session of the National Cover Crops and Soil Health Conference.

The meeting is set for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at the community center located on the west end of Bainbridge on U.S. 36.

Howard Buffett and USDA Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack will kick off the Omaha-based national event, followed by a national panel of leading soil health farmers who will provide their perspectives on the promise, opportunities and challenges of improving soil health.

The national forum and subsequent local meeting will provide the latest information on cover crops and soil health practices and give participants the opportunity to discuss the role of advancing soil health and the use of cover crops in Indiana.

The meeting is open to anyone interested in promoting improved soil health, including representatives of SWCDs, Purdue Cooperative Extension Service, conservation farmers and ag product businesses.

The Indiana Forum will bring together key agriculture federal, state and local leaders, researchers, innovators and policy makers from around the state to discuss the benefits, opportunities and challenges associated with improving the health and function of our soils through the adoption of soil health management systems.
