Four double-figure scorers lead DePauw women to 73-48 win

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Paced by four double-figure scorers, the No. 1 DePauw women remained perfect on the season with a 73-48 North Coast Athletic Conference win at Wittenberg.

DePauw improved to 23-0 overall and 14-0 in NCAC play, while Wittenberg dropped to 12-9 overall and 7-6 in conference play.

The visiting Tigers hit just one of their first eight shots and eventually fell behind by as many as five points at 9-4 after Ali Miller's layup with 13:01 left in the half. Following a DePauw timeout, Savannah Trees knocked in a three-pointer before Hannah Douglas converted a Wittenberg turnover into a bucket to tie the score at 9-9.

The hosts regained the lead, but DePauw heated up with a 22-2 run that included 10 points from Trees and made it 34-15 with 3:55 remaining. DePauw headed to the half with a 38-20 lead.

DePauw blew the game open early in the second half as it scored the first nine points. Ali Ross started the run with a pair of buckets before Alison Stephens added a layup and Douglas nailed a trey to extend the Tigers' lead to 47-20. Wittenberg got as close as 14 before DePauw finished the game with a 14-3 run.

Trees led the Tigers with 22 points including 16 in the first half and hit all four three-pointers she attempted, while Douglas followed with a season-high 18. Alex Gasaway posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds and Ross added 10 points.

Stephens led DePauw with 12 rebounds as the guests held a 48-29 edge on the boards. Emma Ondik dished out four assists in the win.

Amber Rice led Wittenberg with 12 points and seven rebounds.

DePauw connected on 43.3 percent from the floor, while Wittenberg shot just 26.5 percent.

The win was DePauw's 57th straight overall and 76th consecutive in the regular season.

DePauw returns to the hardwood on Saturday, when it hosts Kenyon in the final home game prior to the NCAC Tournament. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. and the Tigers will recognize their five seniors prior to tipoff. Additionally, the 2013 national champion banner will be raised immediately following the men's game which precedes the women's contest.
