Weather forcing weekend cancellations

Friday, February 14, 2014

Heavier-than-expected snowfall has forced the postponement of a Friday night girls' basketball sectional game and a pair of Saturday boys' hoops games.

The Speedway Sectional, in which South Putnam will take on Covenant Christian in the second semifinal, will play in a regional-type format on Saturday.

Semifinal 1 between Cascade and Monrovia will tip off at 10 a.m., with the Eagles facing the Warriors at approximately noon.

As originally scheduled, the sectional final will take place at 7:30 p.m.

In the Danville Sectional, in which Greencastle is scheduled to play Friday night, no postponement has been announced. In fact, Athletic Director Greg Hill took to the Greencastle Athletics website Friday afternoon to post a confirmation that the game is still set.

"The IHSAA Girls Basketball Sectional is still on according to tournament officials," Hill wrote. "We play game 2. Game 1 starts at 6 p.m. Give yourself plenty of time to get to the game and go Tiger Cubs!"

Beech Grove takes on Tri-West in the first game, followed by Indian Creek taking on the Tiger Cubs in the second game.

Snow has also affected a pair of Saturday boys' basketball games.

Greencastle's Saturday afternoon boys' basketball game at Sullivan has been postponed, with no rescheduled date set at this time.

The Cloverdale boys' game at Rockville has been postponed from Saturday evening until Tuesday, Feb. 25, with the junior varsity set to play at 6 p.m.

Both the Evansville wrestling semi-state and the Boys' JV County Tournament at North Putnam are also still on for Saturday.
