Master Gardener advanced training seminar set Feb. 22

Monday, February 17, 2014

It's time for the annual Putnam County Master Gardeners Advance Training Seminar, to be held Feb. 22. The group will be exploring the pretty and the practical.

Come for an exciting day of increasing your gardening knowledge, vendor shopping, fellowship, door prizes, and of course, the food. Enjoy breakfast and lunch (included in registration fee of $45). The seminar is open to the public, so you don't have to be a master gardener.

The knowledge gained through this seminar will be a benefit whether you are an inexperienced or experienced gardener. Jane Jackson, Karen Martoglio and Kristi Nelson have been co-chairing this year's seminar. They have worked hard to find interesting speaker and topics this year.

Topics to be covered and presenters are as follows: Practical Landscaping by Wabash Valley's Blooms and Bros, 25 Useful Garden Ideas by Ann Delchambre, Cover Cropping for the Home Gardeners by Mark Evans and Berries and Brambles by Sam Erwin.

Don't miss out on this event, it's a great way to beat some of the cabin fever. Register today. For more information and to register, person may call Jane Jackson at 720-5212 or email Jacksonj2567@yahoo.comCall the Extension Office 653-8411 for more info.

Indiana Small Farm Conference

The second annual Indiana Small Farm Conference will offer expert advice to owners of small farms to help them make their operations more successful.

Sessions will focus on issues related to management, production, processing and marketing. The conference, Feb. 21-22 at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds in Danville, follows on the successful Indiana Small Farm Conference last March, said Steve Engleking, LaGrange County Extension educator and a conference coordinator.

"It's intended for anyone who is currently involved with, or interested in, small farms in Indiana," Engleking said. "That could be farmers, Extension educators, agricultural agency people or students. We hope to continue building a statewide community of people who have a passion about small farms."

Registration is $150 per person for both days or $100 per person for one day. To accommodate families, there is a discounted fee for additional attendees from the same family, and youth under 13 can attend for free. Fees include conference materials and a lunch each day featuring Indiana-raised foods.
