Area 30 students win big at World of Wheels competition

Thursday, February 20, 2014

Area 30 Career Center students in the Automotive Collision Technology and Automotive Services Technology classes recently participated in the World of Wheels competition on Feb. 7 in Indianapolis.

The students participated in the annual "Career Days," which welcomed automotive programs at the high school and college level to enjoy the aftermarket auto and hot rod industry.

They had the opportunity to meet with car owners and builders, participate in several interactive exhibits and talk to representatives from area colleges and technical schools.

Forty-six students from the two classes attended the competition. They entered a customized 2003 Chevrolet S-10 truck.

Under the guidance of their instructors, Rob Worman and Troy Anderson, and program assistants Jerry Thomas and Steve Ray, the students rebuilt and customized the truck for competition. The students applied the skills they learned in the classroom and shop and had a hand in all aspects of the project.

The students' work paid off by winning first place in the Mild Mini Pickup division and first place for Outstanding Display in the Non-Electrical division. They were awarded a plaque which is on display at Area 30 Career Center.
