Area 30 students demonstrate their skills at regional competition

In addition to winning first place in the computer maintenance category, Josh Mitchell also was awarded a one semester of free tuition scholarship from Vincennes University.

Area 30 Career Center students recently competed in the Skills USA Regional Competition held at Vincennes University on Feb. 2. More than 350 high school students participated in the competition.

The Skills USA organization emphasizes technical skills, leadership and interpersonal skills training. It exposes students to various career paths and encourages success in their selected field.

Twenty-three Area 30 students representing Computer Systems Networking (Zane Earles, Instructor), Automotive Services Technology (Troy Anderson, Instructor), Welding (Curtiss Davis, Instructor) and Civil Engineering and Architectural Design (Ruben Hinners, Instructor) participated in the competition. Eleven students were awarded a medal or placed in the following categories:

3rd Rylan Mattocks-CHS

4th Ross Sego-CHS

5th Chandler Wright-GHS

Internetworking

4th Scott Cummins-SPHS

Diesel Equipment

4th Jake Quisenberry-NPHS

Power Equipment

2nd Matt Kunkler-SPHS

3rd Marissa Gross-SPHS

Architectural Drafting

2nd Levi Lewis-GHS

3rd Tanner Dean-GHS

In addition to placing first, Josh Mitchell received a one semester tuition free scholarship to Vincennes University.

All students who placed first through fourth will be moving on to the Skills USA State Competition on March 14 and 15.
