Tommy Fernitz

Following a second-place finish in the North Coast Athletic Conference regular season and a trip to the conference tournament semifinals, two DePauw men's basketball student-athletes were named to the NCAC All-Conference teams.

Junior Tommy Fernitz (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) earned first team honors after averaging 14.8 points per game and 9.9 rebounds per game. Fernitz led the conference in rebounds per game and field goal percentage, shooting 62.9 percent from the floor.

Fernitz swatted 52 shots this season breaking the previous school record of 50 blocked shots. He was named the NCAC player of the week Jan. 6 for his performance at the Tampa Bay Shootout and earned a spot on last week's NCAC All-Tournament Team.

The 6-9 center was just two rebounds short of becoming the first Tiger to average double-digit rebounds since Kirk Kitzinger (11.6) in the 1979-80 season.

Micheal Wilkison

Senior Michael Wilkison (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) earned second-team honors after averaging 11.3 points per game and 1.4 assists per game.

Wilkison was named the NCAC player of the week Jan. 27, for his performances against Wabash and Wooster, where he averaged 24.5 points per game and went 10-of-13 from three.

Wilkison's 182 made three-pointers rank sixth on DePauw's all-time career list. Additionally, he set the single-season free throw percentage record after going 58-of-63 (.921 percent) from the line this season.

Fernitz and Wilkison led the Tigers to a 19-8 overall record and a 13-5 NCAC record, good for second place in the regular season.

  • It's good to see two Depauw Basketball players honored for their accomplishments in the NCAC.

Really enjoyed the basketball this season.

Another fine performance by the squad.
